Symptoms and treatment methods for tonsillitis
The source of inflammation is most often viruses and streptococci, in rare cases - chlamydia and mycoplasma. They affect the lymphoid tissue of the tonsils, the purpose of which is to trap viruses and bacteria. With weakened immunity, an acute form of the disease occurs.
Tonsillitis becomes chronic if not treated in time
The source of inflammation is most often viruses and streptococci, in rare cases - chlamydia and mycoplasma. They affect the lymphoid tissue of the tonsils, the purpose of which is to trap viruses and bacteria. With weakened immunity, an acute form of the disease occurs.
Tonsillitis becomes chronic if the disease is not treated in a timely manner or is treated incorrectly. Long-term exposure to infection affects the tonsils, and they, in turn, become sources of problems. Hypothermia, weakened immunity, and overwork can provoke an exacerbation.
Symptoms of the disease depend on the severity of the disease. Its manifestations include:
- increased body temperature (up to 39 degrees Celsius);
- headache;
- sore throat;
- stiffness in muscles and joints;
- fever;
- enlarged lymph nodes;
- intoxication.
At the first suspicion of tonsil damage, you should consult a doctor. Tonsillitis responds well to treatment at the initial stage. Complications of the disease are radiculitis, lupus erythematosus, erythema, cholecystitis, systemic rheumatism.
The disease can be diagnosed by visual examination of the oral cavity. Infection is determined by follicles with pus or tubercles of the tonsils. To confirm the diagnosis, a smear is taken for laboratory analysis.
Treatment of tonsillitis is divided into two types.
1. Conservative – includes general and local therapy. To suppress the infection, lubrication and rinsing of the tonsils are carried out, and antibiotics are applied to the site of infection.
Drug therapy is carried out with drugs that alleviate symptoms and destroy pathogenic microbes. Popular medications are Azitrox, Amoxicillin, Oxacillin, Ampicillin, Ampioks, Flemoklav. You can reduce unpleasant symptoms with local antiseptics - Hexoral, Bioparox.
A prerequisite for recovery is rest and bed rest. Physical activity during an exacerbation can lead to serious consequences.
Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial rinsing solutions are good at preventing the spread of microbes. You can make them yourself or buy them ready-made. Use iodine tincture, Lugol's solution.
You can speed up recovery by using physiotherapy procedures. These include phonophoresis, ultraviolet irradiation, diathermy and laser therapy.
2. Surgical intervention is used if conservative therapy methods have not led to a positive result, and periodic relapses are observed. Also, an indication for surgery to remove the tonsils are complications and paratonsillar processes (the transition of inflammation to surrounding tissues).
Removal can be carried out using classical tonsillectomy or a new method - cryotherapy. Its essence consists in freezing pathologically altered layers of the back wall of the pharynx and eliminating pathogenic microflora.
In most cases, after the operation, relapses completely stop. The downside of this method is the weakening of the body's defenses.
You can prevent the occurrence of pathogenic processes in the nasopharynx by hardening and physical exercise in the fresh air. Elimination of other infections (pathologies of the nasal sinuses, caries, adenoiditis) will significantly reduce the likelihood of getting sick.
