Drug treatment

The type of therapy for inflammatory processes of the middle ear depends on their form and neglect. In case of catarrhal otitis, they initially try to eliminate the factors affecting the pharyngeal opening of the auditory tube. In order to prevent infected mucus from being thrown into the tympanic cavity from the nasopharynx, the patient should not blow his nose hard. Each nostril is cleaned alternately and carefully. To reduce swelling of the mucous membrane, the otolaryngologist prescribes vasoconstrictor nasal drops (naphthyzinum, galazolin, xymelin, etc.) and antihistamines (suprastin, tavegil).

Politzer's blowing or a special ear catheter, with the possible introduction of an antibiotic solution with a glucocorticoid and sympathomimetic, helps restore the function of the auditory tube.

Anti-inflammatory drugs are used during the treatment of different types of otitis. Physiotherapy is also used: exposure to laser light, UFO, UHF on the nose, pneumatic massage of the eardrum.

Acute purulent otitis is treated in a complex and differentiated manner, adjusting the therapy depending on the severity of the inflammatory process. In case of excessive intoxication and elevated body temperature, bed rest is recommended.

If the ENT specialist suspects complications (labyrinthitis, mastoiditis, facial nerve damage), emergency hospitalization of the patient is necessary.

The administration of antibiotics is fundamental in the treatment of acute inflammation of the middle ear, which reduces the likelihood of developing undesirable consequences. Antibiotic therapy is also used to treat children under 2 years of age, in patients with immunodeficiency, in the presence of concomitant severe pathology (renal failure, diabetes mellitus, changes in blood composition).

When purulent otitis becomes chronic, surgical intervention is indicated, while conservative methods are used in preparation for the upcoming operation or when it is impossible to perform it.

Traditional medicine

This part of the article is offered for familiarization with folk recipes for the treatment of otitis, which require preliminary approval from an otolaryngologist, so as not to aggravate the situation.
  • When treating purulent otitis, clean a freshly cut aloe leaf from thorns, cut it lengthwise on one side and roll it into a tube. Before going to bed, insert the leaf shallowly into the ear canal and apply a thin bandage to fix it. Remove the compress in the morning. You will see how the pus comes out and remains on the aloe. Rinse the ear with hydrogen peroxide, and repeat the procedure in the evening.
  • For severe pain and shooting pain in the ears, make a propolis tincture with vodka, placing the mixture in a dark place for 5 days. When the healing agent is ready, soak a cloth in it and wipe the auricle and the place where the pain radiates. At night, put pieces of baked onion in the ear. Healers promise that in 2-3 days the pain will subside.
  • Mix onion juice with flaxseed oil in a 1 to 1 ratio. Dip a turunda and insert it into the ear for three hours, then change the cotton wool and repeat the action.

Which medicine to give preference to - traditional or folk - is up to you. But in case of otitis, especially purulent, I would advise you to trust otolaryngologists and official methods of combating inflammation.
